The longest and slowest train in the world is owned by Mauritania \ud83c\uddf2\ud83c\uddf7. \ud83d\ude83 It is a Zouerate train (Desert Train) operated by the National Company for Industry and Mines (SNIM). \ud83d\ude83It connects the port of Nouadhibou, the economic capital of the country located on the Atlantic coast, and the iron mine in the city of Zouerate, located deep in the desert. \ud83d\ude83It was inaugurated in 1963 AD, and provides its services daily. \ud83d\ude83 Its main mission is to transport minerals between the mine and the port, and export them to international markets, on its 704 km long railway. \ud83d\ude83The full journey on board takes 20 hours. \ud83d\ude83 It also transports large tanks containing drinking water. \ud83d\ude83Necessity transformed it from a goods train into a passenger train. \ud83d\ude83It is 2.5 km long, consisting of 4 diesel locomotives and one passenger car, pulling 250 cars, most of which are dedicated to transporting iron ore. \ud83d\ude83 It is the only railway in Mauritania.
